Which soap is better Grade 1 or 2?
The most important factor to be considered in soap quality is its total fatty matter (TFM). Higher the TFM quantity in the soap, better is its quality. As per BIS, Grade 1 soaps should have 76 per cent minimum TFM, while Grade 2 and Grade 3 must have 70 per cent and 60 per cent minimum TFM, respectively.
Grade 2 and 3 soaps contain higher amount of fillers. Sometimes these fillers may even contain asbestos which can have an adverse effect on skin upon continued usage. You can easily identify these soaps as they have the tendency of getting mushy on contact with water, and melt faster.
Grade 3: Soaps should have 60 % minimum TFM – This is a saponified soap of firm and smooth texture. It shall be white or colored, usually red if cresylic acid is added and shall possess good cleaning and lathering properties respectively.
According to these standards, technically Dove is a bathing bar, but Vivel on the other hand is a Grade 2 soap with 73% TFM. Incidentally all the Godrej soaps are Grade 1 soaps. Even Mysore Sandal produced by the Karnataka Government is a Grade 1 soap.
A Quick Reminder The higher the amount of TFM in a soap, the better it would help cleanse and hydrate your skin. Always choose Grade 1 soaps because they contain high total fatty matter and are gentle on the skin.

Washing your face with soap can leave it looking wrinkled, haggard, and dull. The harsh chemicals present in it may be useful in cleansing your body but certainly not the face.
Traditional bar soaps aren't a good choice for your face, even if they smell fantastic and are great for your body. Bar soaps are often scented and dyed. The scents and dyes may irritate the sensitive skin on your face. This could leave your skin red, itchy, or blotchy.
